Neelam Masala Products

Our business, Neelam Masala Products, sits over at Plot No. 350/9 in the Market Yard area of Shanivar Pet, Satara. Being in the Market Yard means things are always moving around us. There’s a lot of noise from the other stalls and the trucks coming in to unload goods. We focus on making masala products, which means our small space is always filled with the smell of turmeric and chili. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, as the dust from the spices tends to settle on everything if you aren't careful. Our days are spent sorting through raw ingredients and getting them ready for processing. It’s just a handful of us working here, so everyone does a bit of everything, from hauling sacks to checking the packaging. There isn't a big office or a place for guests to sit. It’s mostly just a workspace where we get things done. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, like when it’s too humid and the powders start to clump, but we find ways to manage. No one here is doing anything revolutionary. It’s just traditional spice work that’s been done this way for years. Being part of the local market scene in Satara is good. It’s a busy, gritty place, but it suits us just fine. We just try to keep up with the demand and keep our machines running smoothly through the week.
