Baber Hospital

Baber Hospital is located in the Market Yard area of Wai, which is in the Satara district. Being in the Market Yard means we are right in the middle of all the action. Early in the morning, you can hear the farmers bringing in their produce and the sound of people bargaining. It’s a very lively part of town. The hospital is a sturdy building that has been here through many seasons. Inside, the hallways are wide and the floors are made of tile that we keep as clean as we can. We get people coming in from all over the district, not just from Wai. Some have traveled a fair distance on the bus. The waiting area has a few ceiling fans that spin fast to keep the air moving, especially during those hot Satara afternoons. We have a small courtyard area where people can sit outside for a bit of fresh air. It’s a practical, no-nonsense kind of place. We don't have a lot of high-tech gadgets or a flashy reception desk. It’s just us, the nurses, and the patients. We keep our records in big handwritten ledgers and some on the computer now. Every evening, when the market starts to wind down, the hospital gets a bit quieter, and we can finally catch our breath before the next day starts all over again. It’s a lot of work, but this is where we belong.
