Starting a day at Bhopal Dairy And Organic Farm means being up and moving well before the birds start chirping. We are located in Village Sanna, right near the bus stand, so we hear the first buses pulling in while we are still finishing the milking. Jashpur is a beautiful district, but farming here is hard, physical work. We have the cows to look after and the organic patches that need constant weeding and attention. It is not like the big industrial farms you see on the television. Everything here is done by hand or with very simple tools. The smell of the earth and the animals is just a part of our lives now. Being near the bus stand means people are always walking past our gate, sometimes stopping to ask for fresh milk or to see what we are growing this season. We do not have a marketing department or a fancy shop. We just have dirt under our fingernails and a lot of chores to finish before the sun goes down. The Post Office is nearby if we need to send anything out, but mostly we stay on the land. In the rainy season, the paths get very slick and muddy, which makes moving the feed a real chore for us. We just try to keep the animals healthy and the crops growing without too much fuss. It is a simple, practical way to live, and we don't ask for much else.
