Akhtar Kirana

Akhtar Kirana is situated right in the Main Market area, near the Post Office in Mirganj. We are very close to the Railway Station Road, so there is always a lot of movement. You can hear the trains blowing their whistles all day long from the shop. Because of the location, we get people from all over who are just passing through the station. They might grab a bottle of water or some biscuits for their journey. But our main regulars are the people who live right here in Mirganj. I’ve been running this shop for several years now. It’s a narrow space, so I have to stack the crates of drinks and the sacks of rice quite high to make everything fit. It can be a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once. The market is always loud with people shouting and horns honking, but I’ve gotten used to it. My day starts early, around six, so I can get the fresh bread and milk delivered. I spend a lot of time counting change and making sure I don't run out of the popular items like tea or sugar. Sometimes the roof leaks a tiny bit when it rains really hard, so I have to move some of the cardboard boxes around. It’s just a normal kirana shop doing what it can in a busy part of town.
