Nagpal Book Store

You can find us over on the Main Road, right near Peerawala Gate here in Sunam. The shop is usually pretty full of books, sometimes more than we have room for on the actual shelves, so they end up on the floor. We spend a lot of time just moving stacks around so people can walk through the aisles without tripping. It's a bit of a tight squeeze in here, especially when the school kids come in all at once looking for their notebooks or pens in the afternoons. We’ve been in this spot for years and the neighborhood knows us well. Sometimes it’s quiet and I can actually get some reading done behind the counter, but mostly it’s just checking stock and helping someone find a specific title they heard about from a friend. We don't have a fancy computer system to track everything, so we rely on memory and just knowing where things were put last week. The floor is a bit worn down from people walking in and out, but that’s fine. It feels like a real shop that way. We get a lot of dust because of the traffic on the Main Road, so there is always a rag handy for wiping down the glass counters. It’s a simple life running a book store. We like seeing the same faces coming back year after year. It's just a regular place for regular people who need something to read.
