At S S L R Dairy Farms, our lives revolve around the cows and the milking schedule. We are located near the Chicholi Post in Yalnur, which is in the Nilanga taluka of Latur. The mornings start very early, usually while it is still dark outside, because the animals don't wait for anyone. We spend a lot of time cleaning the stalls and making sure the feed is right. Latur can be very dry, so keeping enough water for the herd is always on our minds. The farm isn't a tourist spot; it’s a place of work with mud, hay, and the constant sound of cows. We don't wear suits or sit in offices; we are mostly in our work clothes and rubber boots. When we aren't milking, we are fixing fences or checking on the calves. It’s a repetitive cycle every single day, even on holidays, because the dairy business never stops. We have a few local guys who help us out, and we usually have our meals together near the sheds when we get a break. Sometimes we get tired of the routine, but seeing the milk trucks head out from Chicholi makes it feel like we’ve accomplished something useful. We don't have a website or a marketing person to talk for us. We just have our animals and this plot of land in Yalnur. It’s a lot of physical labor, but it is what we know how to do.
