Shivanjali Bazar Wangi is based in Wangi village, which is part of the Kadegaon taluka in the Sangli district. This is a rural area, so things move a lot slower here than they do in the big cities like Pune or Mumbai. Our place is right in the heart of the village, so just about everyone in the area knows who we are. We do not have a big fancy building with glass doors, just a local spot where we run the bazar operations. People from the nearby farms often come in to see what we have and to talk for a bit. There is always a lot of conversation about the local crops and when the rain might finally come. In Sangli, the weather really dictates how our business goes from month to month. If the harvest is good, people are happy and the shop stays very busy. If it is a dry year, we all feel the pinch. We started this because there were not many places nearby for people to get what they needed without traveling a long way to the bigger towns. We handle a lot of the heavy lifting ourselves, from cleaning the stone floor to carrying the heavy sacks of produce. It is a family-style environment even though we are registered as an LLP. We usually sit on plastic chairs outside the front door when it gets too hot inside. There is no air conditioning here, just the natural breeze.
