Shivani Masala Mills

If you walk down Momin Mohlla in Islampur, you’ll eventually find Door No-2157. That is where we run Shivani Masala Mills. We are right across from the ICICI Bank, which is a good landmark for people who haven't visited us before. The mill has been a part of the local landscape in the Sangli district for a long time. It is a noisy place, with the sound of the grinders running for hours on end, but we’ve grown used to it. The smell of the spices being crushed is very strong—it gets into your clothes and stays there all day. We don't have a big office or a website with lots of pictures. It’s just a workspace where we get the job done. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend the afternoon fixing them ourselves, which is just part of the routine. The people in Momin Mohlla are mostly our friends and neighbors, so there’s a lot of chatting while we work. We don't use any fancy language to describe ourselves because we are just a local mill trying to earn a living. Islampur is a nice enough place to be, and being across from the bank makes it easy for people to find us when they need their spices ground up. We’ve been here through many seasons, and we plan on sticking around as long as the town needs us to keep the grinders going for their daily meals.
