Barkat Stores

Barkat Stores has been on Shiva Talkies Road for a while now, right at the 16/433 mark in Islampur. Being on the road named after the cinema means there is always a bit of life nearby, especially when a movie is about to start or just finishing up. Our store is a typical Islampur shop, filled with all sorts of items that people might need in a hurry. The shelves are wooden and go all the way up to the ceiling, so we often have to use a rickety old ladder to reach the stuff on the top. The lighting inside is a bit dim, but we know our way around the aisles in the dark if we have to. We get all kinds of people coming in, from kids looking for something small to older folks who want to chat for twenty minutes about the weather. It can get pretty dusty with the traffic moving past the front door, so we are always wiping down the glass counters. We don't have a computerised billing system; we mostly use a calculator and a paper pad to keep track of what people owe. It is a bit old-fashioned, maybe, but it works perfectly for us. The storefront has a bit of character, with some old posters and a heavy lock we use every night when we head home.
