Shreeram Vermicompost & Organic Fertilizer Pvt. Ltd.

Down in Sanawad, near the Narmada Krishi Seva Kendra, is where we run Shreeram Vermicompost & Organic Fertilizer Pvt. Ltd. We are out in the Khargone district, so it is a lot of open air and dirt around here. The work is messy because we are dealing with compost and worms all day long. My clothes usually smell like earth and damp soil by the time I go home. We spend a lot of time turning the piles and making sure the temperature is right for the beds. It is hard physical labor, especially when we have to bag everything up for the local farmers who come by in their tractors. We don't have a fancy office, just a small room with a desk where we keep the records and the receipts. The sun gets really strong out here in Barwah tehsil, so we try to do the heavy work early in the morning before it gets too hot. Sometimes the bags break and we have to scoop everything back up, which is a pain. People from the town know us and stop by to talk about their crops. It is just a quiet life of working with the land and trying to make something useful for the soil. It is not glamorous but it is what we do every day. The worms do most of the work but we have to keep them happy and the soil damp.
