Our company is based out of Plot 10/11 in the Mahalaxmi Industrial Estate. It’s located in Iyava, which is a bit of a drive out. We focus on crop science, which means a lot of testing and looking at how different plants grow. The lab is small but it has what we need to do the job. Outside, there’s a lot of dust from the other factories in the estate. We spend our time checking samples and keeping records of how different seeds and treatments are performing. It’s slow work and you can’t really rush it. Some days are just spent cleaning equipment and making sure the storage bins are dry. We have a few people who handle the technical side and others who manage the heavy lifting. It isn't a place with a fancy lobby or many visitors. Most of our interactions are with farmers or distributors who know the industrial park. The gate is usually open during the day, and you can hear the hum of the nearby units. We keep to ourselves mostly and just try to get the data right. It’s practical work that helps people grow better crops. We just do our bit and go home at the end of the shift. The commute is long for some of us, but we are used to it by now. It’s a quiet place to work compared to the city.
