Our office for MAIRA MUTUAL BENEFIT NIDHI LIMITED is up on the second floor. It’s in Chandni Chowk, right near the main road in Chandausi. You have to walk up the stairs at Prem Pal’s place to find where we work. Moradabad can be a noisy area with all the traffic and the horns honking, but once you get inside the building, it settles down a little bit. We have been in this part of Uttar Pradesh for a while now. The 244410 pin code is home for most of us who work here. It’s not a huge space by any means, but it fits our desks and the chairs we put out for visitors. We spend our mornings looking at files and talking to people who drop in to see us. Usually, it’s folks from the neighborhood who know Prem Pal. Being on the second floor gives us a bit of a view of the street below, which is nice when things are moving slow in the afternoon. We don’t do anything too complicated with the business. It’s just about managing the mutual benefit stuff for the members who signed up with us. We know most of the people by their names and faces. If the power goes out, which happens sometimes, we just open the windows to let the air in and keep on working. It gets pretty hot in the summer months, but we manage with a fan. Chandausi is a busy town, and being near the road means we see everything that goes on. We don't have a fancy lobby or any of those corporate things.
