Hina Handicrafts

This shop is in Kasawan, over in Sarai Tareen. It is a small place, number 237, but we have been here for many years. Hina Handicrafts is really just a small family operation. We mostly work with horn and bone, which is what this area is famous for. My grandfather started doing this, and then my father, and now it is my turn to run things. The workshop is right behind the main room. It can get a bit messy with all the scraps on the floor, but that is just part of the process. We do not have a website or anything like that; we just rely on people stopping by. Most of our day is spent carving and polishing. It is quiet work, and you have to be patient. Sometimes a piece breaks right at the end, and you have to start all over again. That can be really annoying, but it is just part of the trade. We drink a lot of tea while we work and chat about what is happening in the village. It is a simple way to live. We do not try to be something we are not. We just make these small items and sell them to whoever appreciates the effort. If you are ever in Kasawan, you can usually hear us working from the street. It is a humble business, but it keeps us fed. We just want to keep the tradition going for another generation.
