National Hydraulics

You can find us at Beheramal Chowk, right near the State Bank of India. It’s a good landmark because everyone knows where the bank is. Our shop is a bit of a local fixture in Beheramal. We work on all kinds of hydraulic systems, which basically means we spend our lives covered in hydraulic fluid. It’s messy and it stains everything, but it’s what we know. We have shelves full of seals, O-rings, and chrome rods. People bring in leaky cylinders or pumps that have stopped working, and we tear them down on the workbench to see what’s wrong inside. The floor is usually a bit slippery, so you have to watch your step. We’ve got a couple of old desks where we do the billing, usually with a radio playing in the background. It’s not a high-tech operation. We rely on our eyes and our experience to figure out why a machine is acting up. The traffic at the chowk can get pretty loud, especially with the buses honking all day. We just keep the doors open to get a bit of a breeze. Most of the customers are farmers or local construction guys who need their equipment fixed quickly. We don't promise anything fancy, we just do the work and let them get back to their jobs. It’s a simple routine but it keeps the bills paid.
