Dev Masala

You can find us right near the Meshi Tractor Agency on Dharia Road, not too far from the Rosera Cinema Chowk. It’s a lively part of town, especially when a movie is letting out or when the farmers are in town looking at the equipment next door. Dev Masala is a small place where we handle all our spice mixing and grinding. The smell of the ground chilies and turmeric is pretty strong, so you’ll know you’re close even before you see the door. The shop isn't very big, and we have to stack the boxes high to make everything fit in the corners. It’s a lot of manual labor, pouring the spices into the grinders and then bagging them up by hand. We don’t have any high-tech systems here. We use the same methods that have worked for us for a long time without changing much. The floor is stained from the spices, and there’s always a bit of noise from the traffic at the Cinema Chowk outside. We get a lot of local people coming in who have been buying from us since we first opened up. We don't do any big advertising; we just rely on people knowing we’re here on Dharia Road. It’s a basic business, and we just try to keep the grinders running and the bags filled. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do.
