Asus (Asha Samaj Utthan Sansthan) Foundation

We are located in Ward No. 01 in Ramaiya Jor, which is part of the Kalyanpur Basti in Samastipur. It is a busy little neighborhood and everyone pretty much knows where we are. We are not a big organization with lots of funding. We are just a small group of local people who wanted to do something for our own community. The office is small and it gets a bit hot in the summer months. We don't have air conditioning or anything like that. We just have a couple of ceiling fans that don't always work right. We spend our days talking to the people who live in the basti. There are a lot of problems with things like water and getting kids into the local schools. We try to help out where we can. We are not professionals and we don't use a lot of big words. We just speak the way everyone else does here. Sometimes we have meetings on the street because our room is too small for everyone to fit inside. It is a lot of hard work and it can be frustrating when things move slowly. But we live here too so we can't just ignore what is happening. We keep track of everything in old notebooks. It is a simple way of doing things but it works for us. We are just trying to make life a bit better for everyone in Samastipur.
