Working at Hira Mahal near the Shiv Mandir means there is always something going on. Between the temple bells and the sound of babies crying, it’s rarely quiet here. This hospital has seen a lot of families grow over the years. We’re located right in the Hira Mahal area, and it’s become a bit of a landmark for the locals. It’s a maternity and children's place, so you can imagine the chaos on a Monday morning. There are strollers in the hallway and tired dads leaning against the walls. We try to keep things organized, but when you’re dealing with kids and new mothers, things never go exactly to plan. I’ve spent more nights here than I can count, sitting in the office with a cold cup of tea while waiting for a delivery. The building itself is old, but it’s sturdy and has a lot of history. We’ve had to fix the plumbing a few times, and the stairs are a bit narrow, but it’s home to us. It’s not a shiny corporate hospital with glass elevators. It’s just a place where people come when they’re starting a family or when their little one has a fever. We do the work, we look after the patients, and we try to make sure everyone leaves a bit better than when they arrived. It’s a tiring job but very real and grounded in this community.
