V L S Minerals is found at No. 130 in the Womens Industrial Estate, which is part of the Sidco Industrial Estate over in Karuppur. It’s an industrial area, so there is always the sound of machinery and trucks moving around outside. We deal with minerals, so things tend to get a bit dusty around here no matter how much we sweep. The air always has that earthy smell to it, which you just get used to after a while. We’ve been here since the estate started getting busy. It’s a good community of workers and small business owners. We usually have the radio playing in the background to drown out some of the noise from the neighbors' shops. Working with minerals isn't easy work; it involves a lot of lifting and sorting and checking the piles by hand. We aren't a huge corporation, just a local team that knows the materials well. Most of us live nearby, so the commute isn't too bad unless the rain floods the main entrance of the estate. We spend a lot of time in the warehouse area rather than the office. The desk is mostly for keeping track of the loads coming in and going out. We drink a lot of tea to keep going through the afternoon slump. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes we have to work Sundays too if a big order is due and the trucks are waiting at the gate. We just do our best to finish.
