Our mill is on the first floor of the R.R. Fairlands building, right near the Kondalampatty Bypass in Salem. It’s a busy area with a lot of trucks moving through all day and night. Being at No.18 means we are right in the middle of the action, which helps with getting things shipped. We do a lot of weaving here. The machines take up most of the space on the floor, so it’s a bit tight when we have a lot of stock sitting around. We’ve been working from this Salem location for some time now. It’s not a quiet job at all; those looms make a lot of noise that you get used to after a while. We mostly just focus on the fabric coming off the machines and making sure the threads don't snap. Sometimes the patterns get a bit tricky and we have to slow down the machines to get it right. It’s just a few of us making sure everything stays on track. The bypass road makes it easy for transport, though the noise from the traffic outside is always there to compete with the looms. We don't have any big corporate goals; we just want to finish the day's work and make sure the fabric is okay. People in the area know the building well. It’s a practical setup for what we do. We drink a lot of tea to keep going through the shifts. It’s just a regular weaving mill doing its thing every day.
