Sri Mathurakalliamman Lathe Works. We are out here in Bharathi Nagar, right by the Thiruvetriyur Post in Attur Taluk. It’s been a while since we started this place. Most days it’s just the sound of the machines running and the smell of cut metal in the air. We don’t have a big office or anything fancy, just the lathe and the tools we need to get the jobs done. People from around the taluk come by when they have something that needs turning or fixing. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back, chatting with the neighbors. It's a small shop. We don’t really do much advertising or stuff like that. Most folks know us because they’ve been coming here for years or their cousin told them about us. We just focus on the pieces in front of us. If it’s a bushing or a shaft, we just try to get the measurements right. It’s hard work and the floor is always covered in metal shavings, but that’s just how it is. We start early and usually stay until the sun goes down or the work is finished for the day. It isn't a flashy life but it keeps us busy and we like being part of the local community here. If you walk past the post office you’ll probably hear the noise from our workshop. That's us.
