Ramanujar Exim Private Limited is based out of Salem, specifically at No 2/256, Kumaragoundar Street in Nethimedu. We are a smallish operation focused on export and import. The office is part of a regular street where everyone knows each other. We spend most of our time coordinating between the local producers and the people who want to buy things from abroad. Salem is a good place for this because of the connectivity. Our day starts early with checking emails from different time zones. There is always something to track down or a price to negotiate. We don't have a big staff, so everyone ends up doing a bit of everything. One person might be doing the accounts in the morning and helping load a van in the afternoon. We keep things very simple here. There aren't any big speeches or long meetings. We just talk over tea about what needs to get done for the day. Sometimes the internet goes out or the rain makes the street muddy, which slows us down. But we manage. We’ve built up some good relationships with the local transporters over the years. We just try to be honest with people about what we can do and when things will arrive. It’s a steady job that keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes even Sundays if there is a big shipment coming through that needs our attention before it leaves the country.
