Obu Textiles

Obu Textiles sits at 6/1-B on Ramalingamadalayam Street in the Gugai area. It’s a busy part of town, and the street itself is quite narrow, so you have to be careful when you’re driving down it. Our building is nothing special to look at, just a sturdy place where we keep the looms and the fabric rolls. The air inside always has a bit of lint floating around, which is just part of the textile life. We have a small crew of people who have been with us for a long time, so we mostly just know what needs to be done without talking about it much. The rhythm of the work is steady, and we usually start quite early before the sun gets too hot. There’s a small tea stall just a few doors down where we all go around eleven o'clock. The walls inside are painted a dull blue that’s starting to peel in the corners, but nobody really minds. We are more interested in the quality of the yarn coming in than how the office looks. We handle everything from unloading the raw materials to packing up the finished cloth for the trucks. It’s a straightforward business, and we like the fact that we’re right in the heart of Gugai. It feels like we are part of the history of this street. Usually, the day ends with us sweeping up the floor and checking the locks twice before we head home for dinner.
