Balaji Weaving Factory

The looms at Balaji Weaving Factory make a lot of noise throughout the day. We are at No-84Kalidasar Street in Narayan Nagar. If you walk down the street, you can usually hear us before you see us. The factory floor is full of threads and machines that have been running for a long time. It’s a lot of repetitive work, watching the patterns form and making sure no threads snap. The air is often filled with tiny bits of cotton or whatever material we are using that week. Narayan Nagar is a busy neighborhood, but we mostly stay focused on what’s happening inside our walls. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If someone wants to see what we make, they just come onto the floor and look at the machines. It’s hot work, and the fans don’t always do enough to cool things down. We’ve got a group of workers who have been doing this for years. They know the sound of a machine that’s about to have a problem before it even happens. We produce quite a bit of fabric here, and it all gets bundled up and sent off to various places. It’s not a glamorous job, but there is something satisfying about seeing a finished roll of cloth at the end of the shift. We keep the machines oiled and the lights on for as long as needed. That’s about all there is to it.
