Our shop is located in the Chinna Thambi Complex on Kudi Street in Karuppur. We are right across from the Government College, so there are always students walking past or stopping in for something. Salem can be a very hot place, and Kudi Street is no exception. We spend a lot of our time behind the counter, organizing the medicine strips and checking the stock levels. The shop is not very large, so we have to use every bit of shelf space we have. Boxes are stacked pretty high in some corners. We do not have any fancy lighting or air conditioning, just the usual tube lights and a few ceiling fans that work hard all day. People from the college and the surrounding houses come in with all sorts of requests. We do our best to find what they need in our inventory. Sometimes the deliveries arrive late because of the traffic in Salem, which can be a bit of a headache. We handle the billing ourselves on an old computer that sometimes takes its time. It is a simple life, really. We open up early in the morning and stay until the street gets quiet at night. There is not any big marketing plan here; we just provide what the community needs and keep the shop tidy. It is a local business run by local people who know the area well.
