Our office is on the first floor of V M Complex. It is right on the Arisipalayam Main Road, not far from the Four Road intersection in Salem. It is a very busy part of the city, so there is always a lot of noise coming from the street below. We have a couple of desks and some mismatched chairs for anyone who visits. People come in mostly to ask about different colleges or what courses they should think about taking next. It gets a bit stuffy in the afternoons when the sun hits the front windows directly. We keep some brochures on the table, though they tend to get messy pretty fast with everyone flipping through them. We do not have any big neon signs, just the one painted on the door so people know they are at the right place. Mostly, we just spend our time talking to people. Some days are slow and we just sit and sort through piles of paperwork. Other days, the phone will not stop ringing and the room feels very small. We have been in this building for some time now. The stairs can be a bit steep if you are not used to them. It is a very plain office without any fancy decorations or art. We just try to keep the files organized so we can actually find things when someone asks. Salem is a good place for this kind of work because there are always students around.
