Jalagai Stores

Jalagai Stores is located right on West Main Road, not too far from Chinna Park. If you know Metur Dam, you probably know the area. We’re at number 145. It’s a decent-sized space but we’ve filled it up with so much stuff that it feels small sometimes. We’ve been here a good while now. The morning traffic on the main road can be pretty loud, especially with the buses going past. We open up early and stay open until the sun goes down usually. Most of our regulars live just a few streets over. We know their names and what they usually need. It’s not like those big supermarkets where nobody talks to you. We talk too much sometimes. The shelves are a bit mismatched because we added them one by one as we needed them. It works for us. We try to keep things in stock but sometimes things get delayed. That’s just how it goes here. Metur Dam is a nice place to live and work. We see the same faces every day. My nephew helps out on the weekends when he isn't busy with school. We have a small stool behind the counter where I sit when my legs get tired. The light in the back flickers occasionally but we haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. It’s a simple shop for local people. We keep the doors open for the breeze when the afternoon heat kicks in.
