Ganesa Modern Rice

Ganesa Modern Rice sits right across from the government school in Athur. You can hear the kids playing during their lunch break while we’re busy inside the mill at number 15. The building itself is older, with some cracks in the cement floor, but the machinery still works fine if you treat it right. We spend a lot of our time checking the quality of the rice as it comes out of the machines. It’s a repetitive job, watching the grains flow, but it has to be done. The school run makes the road outside pretty hectic in the mornings and afternoons, so we usually try to time our truck deliveries for when it’s quieter. There’s a small bench out front where people sometimes sit and wait while we finish up their order. We don’t have any fancy signs or bright lights, just the name painted on the wall. The dust from the milling settles on everything, so we’re always wiping down the ledges. It’s a steady life here in Athur, and we’ve gotten to know the rhythm of the town pretty well. On rainy days, the sound on the metal roof is so loud we can’t even hear each other talk. We just keep our heads down and get the sacks ready for pickup, one after the other. It is hard work, but we are used to the noise and the long hours spent on our feet.
