If you find yourself in Janakpuri, look for Gali No. 2. We are tucked away at H.No. 6/6116. It’s a tight street, so it’s usually better if you’re walking. Our workshop is almost always noisy with the sound of saws and hammering. There’s usually sawdust on the floor no matter how many times we sweep it up. We make and fix up furniture here at Shakti Furnishers. It’s manual work. We spend a lot of time sanding down wood or fitting pieces together. Our team is small, just a few of us who have been doing this for years. We don't have a big showroom with bright lights. Most people just walk in because they live nearby or heard about us from a neighbor. We have benches and stools in various stages of being finished scattered around the room. Sometimes the wood smells really strong, especially when we’re using certain varnishes. We eat our lunch together in the back corner of the shop. It’s a simple routine. We start early in the morning when it’s still cool out and work until the evening. We don't use any fancy software to design things, just pencils and some old measuring tapes that have seen better days. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy. We like the local feel of Janakpuri. Everyone knows everyone else on this gali, which makes the days go by a bit faster.
