New Apsara Fashion is located in Bazar Nakhasa in Saharanpur. This part of town is always crowded, and our shop is right in the heart of the market. We sell readymade garments for all sorts of people. The shop is fairly small, so we have to stack the boxes pretty high to fit everything in. Sometimes it feels a bit like a maze inside. We don't have any fancy displays or expensive lighting. Most of our work involves unpacking new stock and trying to find a place for it on the shelves. Saharanpur can get very hot, and the market doesn't have much shade, so we stay inside and keep the fans going. We have a small desk where we keep our ledgers and some old pens. We don't use computers much; we prefer to write things down. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, I suppose. We know many of the other shop owners nearby, and we often share a tea in the afternoon when things quiet down a bit. Our customers are mostly local families who have been shopping in Bazar Nakhasa for generations. We don't make any big claims about what we do. We just open up the shop every morning and wait to see who comes through the door. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living. The place isn't perfect, but it’s our business and we’ve been here for a long time.
