Mechanical Engineer

Working as a Mechanical Engineer in a place like Village Datoli Rangad is very different than being in a big city. There are no glass buildings or air-conditioned offices around here. My workspace is a bit rough around the edges, mostly because of the grease and the heavy metal parts I deal with daily. People around the village just call me the engineer, and that’s fine with me. I’ve lived in Datoli Rangad for a long time, so I know the land and the people who live on it. Most of the work involves fixing machinery that has seen better days. Tractors, irrigation pumps, and whatever else the local farmers bring over when things break down. My hands are almost always stained with black oil, and no amount of soap really gets it all off at the end of the day. I don’t have a fancy website or a marketing person to write things for me. I just have my tools and a sturdy workbench. Sometimes it’s quiet, and I just sit outside the shop and watch the fields for a bit. Other times, it’s a real rush to get a machine back in the field before the rain comes. It’s a practical, slow-paced life. I don’t use big words to explain the problems. If a gear is stripped, I just show the customer the metal shavings. The village is small, so my reputation is everything. I just try to be fair and fix things so they stay fixed.
