About Gama Wood Carvers – Industrial Plant & Machines in Saharanpur
Our workshop is over in Avas Vikas Colony, right by the Police Line. It’s tucked behind J. V. Jain College 1, near the Sudhar Committee building. If you come by, you’ll probably smell the wood before you see the shop. There’s always sawdust on the floor no matter how much we sweep. We do a lot of carving by hand, so it’s usually quite noisy with the chisels and hammers going. The space isn't very large, and it’s filled with scraps of wood and half-finished projects. We've been in this neighborhood for a long time. It’s a bit out of the way, which is fine because we need the focus. We don’t have a showroom with glass cases. Everything is just sitting on workbenches or leaning against the walls. Some days are slow and we just work on a single piece of detail for hours. Other days feel like we can't keep up with the orders. The light comes in through the side windows in the morning, which is the best time to work. We don't use big machines for everything; a lot of it is just old-fashioned effort. It’s a bit dusty and the tea always has a bit of wood grain in it, but we like it here. It’s honest work. We just take the wood and try to make it look like what the person asked for.
