Fancy Garments

Our little shop is at 33 Nehru Market in Charanjpur. It's one of those older markets where everyone knows each other. We’ve been here for several years now, just selling basic garments for men, women, and kids. The name says Fancy but we mostly have everyday clothes that people actually use. I spend a lot of my time just standing at the door or sitting on the stool near the counter. The shop is quite narrow, so we have to be clever about how we hang the clothes. There’s a small storage space above the ceiling where we keep the extra stock, and I have to use a ladder to get things down. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it works. We don't have any big signs or bright lights. Most people just recognize the blue door. The market gets quite busy on Tuesdays, so that's our longest day. Sometimes the ceiling leaks a little bit when it rains hard, so we have to move the racks around. It’s just a normal part of running a business in an old building. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just talk to the people who come in. It’s a quiet life mostly. We know which neighbors like which fabrics, and we try to keep some of those in stock. It’s a very local operation and we’re fine with that.
