Our workshop, Alam Wood Handicraft, is located at number 123 near the Khata Kheri main road. It's a busy area and you can usually hear the saws running even before you reach the door. We’ve been working with wood here for as long as I can remember. The shop is always filled with that strong smell of fresh sawdust and varnish. We do everything from basic home furniture to smaller carved items that people use for decoration. It’s a small team of us working here, mostly relatives and a few neighbors from down the road. We don't use many big machines, mostly just hand tools that have been passed down or bought years ago. The floor is never really clean because there's always something being sanded or cut into shape. We take in pieces of raw wood and turn them into whatever the person who walked in needs. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from the morning until the sun goes down. Sometimes we sit out front on the main road when we take our tea breaks. The traffic can be quite a lot, but it brings people by who stop and look at what we’re making that day. We don't have a catalog or a price list. If someone wants something made, they usually just bring a rough drawing or tell us what they're thinking of. We figure out the cost and get to work on it. It’s a simple process without any corporate fuss.
