Down in Mahmudpur Safipur, things move at their own pace. Babloo, who is Ram Kumar’s son, decided we needed a proper group for the bio-energy work, so we set up Goladas Bio-Energy Farmer Producercompany Limited. The office isn't much to look at, just a practical space where we can meet and keep our ledgers. Most of us are farmers first and business people second. We spend our mornings out in the fields and then come together to talk about how to turn crop waste into something useful for the village. It gets quite loud when everyone starts talking at once during the meetings. Babloo usually keeps the records, and we try to make sure every member gets their share of the earnings. The roads around here get very muddy when it rains, making it hard to move equipment, but we manage somehow. We don't have a big corporate team, just local guys who know the land. Some days we just sit and drink tea while discussing the price of seeds or the new energy machines. It’s a lot of physical work, hauling stuff and checking the processing units. We wanted to do this because the traditional markets were not always kind to us. Having our own company gives the local growers a bit more of a voice. It’s hard work, and there are many days when things don’t go as planned. We just keep at it because this is our home and our livelihood.
