Shriram Masala

Shriram Masala is tucked away at Plot No. 21 in Ganotri Society. It is right near the Station Road, so we hear the trains going by all day long. Sabarkantha can get quite hot in the summer months, which makes working near the grinders a bit of a sweat. We started this because we wanted to stay close to home. My brother and I manage the daily stuff, from weighing the turmeric to making sure the bags are sealed properly. It’s a simple setup. We don’t have fancy machines that do everything for us. A lot of it is still done by hand because that’s how we learned it. The station being so close means we get a lot of foot traffic, people just popping in to see what we have. We don't spend money on posters or radio spots. Word of mouth works well enough for a place like this. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck in the narrow lanes, and we all have to go out and help move things. It builds character, I guess. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of red or yellow powder by noon. We sweep up, have some lunch, and get back to it. It is not a glamorous life, but it’s ours. We have stayed in this same spot for years because the community knows where to find us. No need to change things when they work well for everyone involved.
