Alex Cera Industries

We are located at Plot No. 6 in the GIDC area, which is where all the ceramic action happens. Our place, Alex Cera Industries, is basically a large industrial shed with a small office section partitioned off at the front. The air always smells a bit like wet clay and heat from the kilns. It’s a noisy environment with the machines running and the forklifts moving pallets of tiles or pottery around. We don't spend much time sitting down; there’s always something to check on the production floor or a shipment that needs a final look before it goes out. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of ceramic dust, which is just part of the job. We have a small table where we take our breaks and talk about things other than work for a bit. It gets really hot in the middle of the day, so we try to do the most physical stuff when it's cooler. We aren’t interested in being fancy or looking like a big corporate office. We’re just a bunch of workers who know how to handle ceramics. Most of us have been working in GIDC for years and know all the people in the neighboring plots. It’s a community of makers, and we’re just glad to be a part of it, doing our daily shifts and getting the products out the door.
