Dhobi In Chandigarh

We are set up over in Mohali, right near the Umada Chowk area. It’s a busy spot with a lot of people passing through all the time. Our work is pretty straightforward. We take in clothes, wash them, and spend hours at the ironing table. The iron is heavy and the heat is something you just get used to after a few years. There isn't any fancy signage or a big office. It’s just a place where the work gets done. We have a routine that starts before the sun is even fully up. We sort the piles of laundry that come in from the houses nearby. Mohali is growing fast, so there are always new people moving in and needing their shirts pressed for work. The chowk is always noisy with scooters and buses, but we just stay focused on the clothes. Sometimes the weather makes things hard, like when it rains and we can't dry anything outside. We use every bit of space we have inside to hang things up. It’s just me and a couple of others doing the work. We don't use any marketing tricks or big advertisements. People know us because we’ve been at this spot for a long time. It’s honest work and it takes up most of our waking hours. We just keep the water running and the iron hot and handle whatever comes our way from the local families.
