About Sri Dhivya Fabrics – Furniture in Royapettah
We are located at No. 174 Pycroft Road in Royapettah, right near the old Tower Clock. It’s a very busy street, and at Sri Dhivya Fabrics, we are right in the middle of all the noise. The shop is filled with hundreds of rolls of cloth stacked from the floor to the ceiling. You can smell the fresh cotton and the dyes as soon as you walk through the door. It’s a bit of a maze inside because we try to fit as much variety as we can into the space. People come in looking for specific colors or textures for their new clothes. We spend our days unrolling fabric, measuring it out with a long wooden yardstick, and cutting it with heavy scissors. It’s physical work, and your arms get quite tired after a few hours of lifting the heavy rolls around. The Tower Clock is a good landmark for us, so customers never really get lost finding the shop. The noise from Pycroft Road is constant—horns, people shouting, and the sound of rickshaws going by. We have a few wooden benches for people to sit on while they decide which fabric they like best. Sometimes it takes them a long time to pick the right one for their needs. We don't mind the wait. We just stand by and then get back to the cutting. At the end of the day, there are scraps of thread and fabric all over the floor. We sweep it all up, lock the doors, and come back to do it again.
