Shiva Cement

Our place at Shiva Cement is on the top floor of DL/87 in Basanti Colony. Rourkela is an industrial town, so having a cement business here makes a lot of sense. Sukanta Sahu is the name associated with this location. Since we are on the top floor, we get a good view of the neighborhood, but it also means it gets very hot in the summer months. The stairs are a bit steep, so we get our exercise every day. The office itself is usually covered in a very thin layer of grey dust, which is hard to avoid when you are dealing with cement all day. We have bags and samples of different grades of cement sitting around. Most of our day is spent coordinating trucks and talking to contractors who are building things around Orissa. It is a noisy office because of the fans and the phones, but we are used to it by now. We do not have a fancy website or a marketing team; we just talk to people and write down orders in our big ledger books. The furniture is old wood and the floor is simple concrete. It is a very practical environment where the focus is strictly on the product and the deliveries. We know most of our regular drivers by name and we usually have a chat with them when they come to settle their papers.
