Gems

Down in Jagananth Colony, Panposh, things are pretty relaxed. Our place, Gems, is right in the middle of the residential area. It is a small shop and we have been here for quite some time. We do not have a lot of bells and whistles. It is just a counter and some shelves with various items. We deal with a variety of things mostly whatever the local people need. Panposh is a tight-knit neighborhood so we see the same faces every day. We know whose kids are in school and who just got a new car. The shop does not have air conditioning so we keep the door open to catch the breeze. Sometimes a stray dog will wander in to sleep on the cool floor. We do not really do much in the way of marketing. We just open up in the morning and wait for the neighbors to stop by. It is a very personal way of doing business. We have a small radio that plays local stations all day long. The shelves are a bit dusty and the lighting is not the brightest but it feels like home. We have had the same sign above the door for a decade. It is faded now but everyone knows what it says. We are not trying to expand or become a big chain. We are happy right here in the colony. It is just a simple steady life for us. We often keep a few chairs outside for people to sit.
