Aruna Rice Mill

The mill is right in Village Shivpur, near the Mohania post office in the Kaimur district. It’s a rural spot, so we are surrounded by a lot of farmland. When harvest season hits, this place becomes a bit of a madhouse. Tractors and trailers line up all the way down the dirt road waiting to drop off their loads. We try to keep things moving as fast as we can, but the machines can only go so fast. It’s a lot of sweat and hard work. The floor of the mill is usually covered in a fine powder from the husking process. We don't have fancy computer systems to track everything, we mostly use paper notebooks and memory. It’s worked for us so far. My family has been involved in this kind of work for a long time. You get to know the rhythm of the seasons and how the weather affects the crop quality. Some years are better than others. When the machines are off, the silence in the village is actually quite nice. But usually, there is that constant thumping sound from the mill. We don't spend money on advertising or anything like that. People just know where we are and what we do. It’s a straightforward business built on long days and a lot of heavy lifting. That's just how life is here in Kaimur.
