About Cane And Bamboo Technology Centre – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Ri Bhoi
Our place is called the Cane And Bamboo Technology Centre, and you’ll find us at the 13th Mile on G.S. Road. It’s a bit of a drive out, but there’s plenty of space for what we do. As the name says, we work mostly with cane and bamboo. We’ve got workshop areas where we test out different ways to use these materials. There are always piles of raw bamboo stalks drying outside or being processed in the back. It’s a very hands-on kind of place. You’ll hear the sound of stripping and cutting throughout the day. We aren't a big factory; it feels more like a learning center or a craft hub. We have people coming in to learn how to make things or to see what’s possible with the local plants. The floor is often covered in shavings and small bits of wood. We don't bother with a lot of office polish. Our focus is on the materials and the tools. Working on G.S. Road means we get people stopping by who are just passing through. It’s a good spot because the bamboo grows well around here. We just try to show how useful these plants can be for building and making goods. It’s practical work that feels connected to the land. We don't use fancy jargon. We just show what the hands can do with a bit of cane and bamboo. It’s simple work.
