Suresh Books

Suresh Books is tucked away at 6175, Bara Hazari Road. If you find Navdeep Jewellers, you are basically right there. The shop is a bit narrow, so we have to stack the books quite high to make everything fit. It can be a bit of a challenge when someone wants something from the very bottom of a pile, but we’ve got a ladder that usually does the trick. I spend a lot of my time just dusting off the covers and trying to keep things in some kind of order, though it never stays that way for long. The road outside is always loud with rickshaws and people shouting, but inside it’s mostly just the smell of old paper. We don't have a computer system or anything like that for the inventory. I just remember where most things are, or we spend a few minutes looking together. It’s a very local kind of place. People stop in not just for books but sometimes just to chat for a minute while they are out doing their shopping. We get all kinds of readers, from students looking for cheap textbooks to older folks wanting something to read in the evenings. The lighting isn't the best in the back of the shop, but we have a few extra bulbs we switch on when it gets dark. It is just a simple bookshop on a busy street, trying to keep up with what people want to read.
