Ranjan Food Processing Industries

Our place is out at Bajrangpuram, on Road No. 1. It’s a bit of a drive out towards Rewa Road, past Post Bhawanpur. Ranjan Food Processing Industries has been out here for some time now. It’s a dusty area, especially when the big trucks go by on the main road. The facility is basically a large shed with some machines inside. It gets very hot during the day, so we try to get the heavy work done early in the morning. We process different kinds of food depending on what is in season. There is always a lot of cleaning to do. You can’t have a food business without spending half your time washing things down. The workers come from the nearby villages. We all know each other’s families. We don't have a big fancy office. My desk is just a wooden table in a small corner near the entrance. I spend a lot of my time checking the scales and making sure the packaging is sealed right. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit around and wait for the generator to kick in. It’s just the way things go out here. We aren't trying to change the world. We are just processing food and trying to keep the machines running for another day. It’s basic, hard work on Road No. 1. We keep going because it’s what we’ve done for many years.
