Dharma Knitts

Our place is down at No. 7 on Dyeing Street in Rayapuram. It is right in the middle of everything here. You can hear the sounds of machines running from the street. We started out with just a couple of machines and now we have a bit more space, but it still feels crowded. There is yarn everywhere and the floors are never really clean for long. We work mostly with local people. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, especially when all the equipment is running at once. We usually have the radio playing in the background to keep things moving. It isn't a quiet office. There is always someone coming in or out with bags of goods. We sit on plastic chairs and use old wooden tables. Sometimes we have to fix the machines ourselves when they act up. It is just how it is. We know most of the other guys on this street. We trade stories over lunch. We aren't trying to be some big corporate house. We just want to make sure the work is done before the sun goes down. People drop by without calling and that is fine with us. It is a simple life and we are used to the noise and the dust of Rayapuram. We have been here since the street was much quieter. We just keep going every day.
