About Shiridisai Kalyan Note Books Industries – Media in Rayagada
We've been making notebooks here near Sughaat Hotel for a while now. The machines get loud in the morning when we start cutting the paper. Most people just walk past us on their way to grab food at the hotel, but we’re usually inside dealing with stacks of ruled and unruled pages. It’s dusty work, honestly. We spend a lot of time checking the binding and making sure the covers are on straight. Some days the humidity makes the paper curl a bit, so we have to watch out for that. It’s not a fancy setup. Just a bunch of us working through the piles of paper every day. We get local shops coming by to pick up their stock. My hands are usually covered in ink or glue by lunchtime. The shop isn't huge, but it gets the job done. We try to keep things organized, though with thousands of notebooks lying around, it’s a bit of a challenge. Sometimes we run out of a certain size and have to wait for the next delivery. People know us as the place near the hotel where the paper smell comes from. It’s just what we do here. It’s steady work. We don't have a big office or anything, just the workshop area and a small desk for the bills. We’re usually here from early morning until the sun goes down, just keeping the machines running and the stacks moving along.
