Up here in Rayagada, we are based at the Raniguda Farm area, working with Utkal Alumina International Limited. Being in Orissa, it’s quite a different pace compared to the big cities. The air is a bit dustier because of all the activity around the site, and you see a lot of trucks moving back and forth. Our office is a simple building, built to be sturdy and functional rather than pretty. We deal with a lot of the day-to-day logistics for the Aditya Birla Group from here. It’s a long drive to get to the main town, so we mostly stay put once we arrive in the morning. The landscape around us is mostly industrial and farm land. It gets very hot during the day, and the rain in the monsoon can be quite heavy, making the roads a bit messy. Inside, the walls are covered with charts and schedules. We drink a lot of water and try to keep things organized. It’s a lot of hard work, and the people here are used to the rugged conditions. There isn't much in the way of entertainment nearby, so we mostly focus on the job at hand. It’s a plain, no-nonsense environment. We have a small canteen area where we sit for breaks. It’s basically just a workspace for people who aren't afraid of getting their boots a little dirty. We have been working from this farm location for quite some time now and have gotten used to the surroundings.
