Staycation Sikkim

Up on Kewzing Road, things move a bit slower, which is how we like it. We started Staycation Sikkim because we have this spot here and we wanted to use it. It’s mostly about managing the rooms and making sure the blankets are warm enough for the cold nights. The weather here can change fast, so we spend a lot of time checking the roof or making sure the heaters are working. We don’t have a big hotel lobby with marble floors. It’s more of a home-style place on Kewzing Road. We do the cleaning ourselves most of the time. When people show up, we just give them the keys and show them where the tea is. We know the local trails and where the best views are, so we talk about that if anyone asks. It’s not a corporate chain. It’s just us living and working in the mountains. Sometimes the water pipes freeze or the electricity goes out for a bit, but that’s just life in Sikkim. We try to keep things comfortable without being too fussy. People come here to get away from the noise, and we try to give them that. It’s a lot of laundry and making beds, but looking out at the mountains every morning makes it okay. We’ve been here for a bit and we don't plan on going anywhere else. This is our life on the road.
