Shri Shivani Spices

You will find us right on the Mhow Neemuch Road. It is a long, dusty stretch of highway and we are right in the middle of it. The smell of spices is the first thing you notice when you get close to the building. We spend our days grinding, mixing, and bagging different things like turmeric, coriander, and red chilies. It is heavy work and the dust gets into your clothes and hair by midday. We use big scales to weigh out the sacks before they are loaded onto the trucks. The noise of the machinery makes it hard to talk, so we mostly use hand signals or wait until the lunch break. We have a small area in the front where locals can stop by and buy a few kilos for their own kitchens. The floor is concrete and we have to wash it down frequently to keep the different smells from mixing too much. We don't have a fancy office or any air conditioning, just some big industrial fans that move the hot air around. It is an honest living and we take pride in the stuff we produce. Most of us have been working here for years and we know the rhythms of the road and the seasons. When the harvest comes in, we are busier than ever, working long hours to keep up with the supply. It is just the way things are out here for us.
