Sandesh Stone

Out here in Village Rozana, things move a bit slower, except for when we are working with the stone. Sandesh Stone is located in the Jaora Tehsil area. We deal with the rocks that come from the ground. It is hard, physical work and it never really ends. The yard is full of different sizes of stones, some rough and some cut down. My hands are usually calloused from moving pieces around all day. We have a few machines that help, but a lot of it is just manual labor. The sun gets really hot in the afternoons, so we try to do the heaviest lifting early in the morning. People from the nearby towns come to us when they are building a foundation or a wall. We don't have a fancy showroom. You just walk into the yard and see what we have available. Sometimes the trucks get stuck if the ground is soft from the rain. We just pull them out and keep going. It’s a noisy business with all the cutting and loading. We don't talk much while we work because of the sound. It is a simple way to make a living, working with what the earth gives us. We’ve been in Rozana for a long time, and everyone around here knows the spot. We just keep working through the heat and the cold because the stone doesn't move itself and the orders keep coming.
